Bastar craton

BASTAR CRATON

Bastar craton is situated south of Satpura mobile belt, west to Singhbhum craton and Northwest of Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt. 



Characteristics 
  • This craton have sediments and volcanics of both archeans and proterozoic.
  • It has granitic as well as basaltic lavaflows. 
  • It has economically important deposits of Copper and Iron.

Stratigraphy


Amgaon group is of archean age. Sukma granites are also dated back to the archeans. 

Bailadila group have Banded Haematite quartzite bands and makes India's largest BIF deposit.

Malnjkhand have porphyry Cu - (Mo) deposits.

Uppermost Chilpi ghati group is at the paleoproterozoic - mesoproterozoic boundary. It underlies the sausor group (Satpura mobile belt).
